One of the two brick ice houses in Ashland, brick-lined pits dug 16 feet into the ground and topped with conical roofs. Ice placed in an icehouse in Jan-Feb. could last until the following Oct-Nov. These ice houses provided the rare luxury of chilled food (ice cream) and drink year round.
