Despite the name, it has no relationship to Count Dracula's Transylvania region in central Romania, although 'Transy' activities do exists on campus today :-) Opened in 1780, it's now ranked the top liberal arts college in the country. Got its name, because it was found in heavily-forested region of western Virginia (which became most of Kentucky later). Transylvania, meaning "across the woods" in Latin.
